If you enjoy Danish crime series like Wallander, Dicte offers similarly engrossing characters and twisting plots without the brooding hopelessness. James’ book hit all the right notes on crime investigation in Regency England but missed Jane Austen’s social commentary and character study the miniseries restores those subtleties.
